I am Shardia O’Connor
I am a cultural commentator, award-winning columnist, and founder of Shades of Reality. I write about identity, power, responsibility, and the uncomfortable truths shaping modern society.
I am not here to be agreeable, digestible, or universally liked.
My work challenges performative progress, outsourced responsibility, and narratives that prioritise comfort over clarity. I do not write to soothe egos or validate illusions, I write to expose patterns, question assumptions, and return agency to the individual.
If you are looking for reassurance, this is not it.
What I Do Or Not Do
My work examines:
Identity: how it is shaped, distorted, and weaponised
Culture, power, and narrative control
Leadership, accountability, and responsibility
Mental health beyond slogans and soft language
Education, values, and long-term social consequences
I do not do:
Trend-led activism
Empty motivation
Ideological echo chambers
Comfort disguised as compassion
My work exists in the space most people avoid, where responsibility replaces blame, and clarity replaces performance.
Writing & Recognition
I am an Executive Contributor for Brainz Magazine and a long-standing contributor to Expert Profile Magazine. My writing is direct, reflective, and uncompromising — not for shock value, but because truth often offends when people are invested in narratives.
My work has been recognised internationally, including:
Ranath Media Lifetime Achievement Award
CREA Global Award (2025)
Global Super Minds Awards (2023)
She is frequently cited for her analysis of cultural conditioning, identity politics, and the psychological cost of avoiding responsibility.
Background
I have over 20 years of experience across healthcare, mental health, education, leadership, and community work. I hold a BA in Young People, Families and Communities and has worked directly with individuals and systems impacted by trauma, inequality, stigma, and institutional failure.
This is not academic posturing. It is lived reality. My perspective is grounded in what happens when policies fail, narratives collapse, and people are left to deal with the consequences.
Perspective
I believe:
Identity without responsibility is hollow
Leadership without accountability is dangerous
Compassion without honesty is manipulation
My work invites reflection, not comfort.
Agency, not victimhood.
Clarity, even when it costs.
Presence
My work appears across recognised publications and platforms, including Brainz Magazine, Expert Profile Magazine,
and Shades of Reality.
